What's on your schedule this month? Proms? Graduations? Cinco de Mayo? Mother's Day? Memorial Day? Add to that your daily routine and you're just plain over-scheduled. Oh ... you don't have time for anything else? As if your schedules aren't busy enough? Let me list some of the other stuff on the May schedule. (Believe it or not, these are actual observances.) May 1 is Mother Goose Day. May 3 is Lumpy Rug Day. May 5 is National Hoagie Day (that works for me). May 7 is International Tuba Day. May 8 is No Socks Day. May 9 is Lost Sock Memorial Day (now there's one we all identify with). May 11 is Eat What You Want Day. May 14 is Dance Like a Chicken Day. May 15 is Chocolate Chip Day (Mmmmmm). May 17 is Pack Rat Day. May 21 is National Waiter / Waitress Day. May 24 is National Escargot Day. May 27 is the Body Painting Arts Festival. May 28 is National Hamburger Day (I'm there!) May 30 is My Bucket's Got a Hole In It Day. And May 31 is National Macaroon Day. And, yes, there are other observances. But I think this list will at least give you something to do this month.
And, now that it's May, the summer season is upon us. Those who have lived in beach resort communities, especially those who are seasonally impacted like ours, oft-times experience tremendous emotions; anxiety over the price increases on just about everything, frustration over the overwhelming traffic, aggravation over having to wait in long lines at restaurants, and much more. What used to take us 30 minutes to accomplish now takes double or triple the time. When I moved here, I could drive from my home in Lewes to Rehoboth Beach in less than 10 minutes (without speeding! and there were only two traffic lights). Now the speed limit is much lower and there are at least 12 traffic lights. While most of us enjoy the conveniences that we now have in our area, we also regret the loss of our time and the frustration that comes with all these conveniences.
Life is like that. We want the conveniences, the extra things, the nice things, the 60 inch plasma screen TV, the 22 horsepower riding lawn mower, the swimming pool, the big deck, the massive gas grill that does everything except carry the food to the table. We want the convenience of stores and shops, good medical facilities and medical providers, and the luxury of not having to travel to Dover or Wilmington to take care of our needs (and now, with the price of gas, that's a real luxury). The problem with this is simply that along with all these so-called "conveniences" comes the bondage to traffic woes, the struggle to pay our bills, the long waits, the hectic schedules, and the accompanying frustration. To put it simply, our lives and our schedules are not our own.
Here at Midway, our current sermon series addresses many of these concerns, such as how to break the bondage of this world so that it doesn't control your life, how to be free from sin, and how to deal with those things that eat-away at your peace of mind.
I invite you to join the loving people of Midway Assembly of God over these next weeks as we pursue liberty through Jesus Christ. See our "Midway Events" page for details concerning our sermon series, "LET MY PEOPLE GO!" and then join us each week as we allow the power of God to bring freedom into our lives.

Blessings! Pastor Gary
